EATIT WORLD has already designed more than half a dozen models, where the complete bicycle is handcrafted from treated cane, the exceptions being the wheels, the chain, the chain gear, the pedals and the brake mechanism, which are made from metal and bought readymade. Cane is a sturdy, elastic, lightweight material with a natural shock-absorbing quality. It is a easily renewable resource since only branches need to be cut off and these re-grow. Riding this bicycle on bumpy village roads and narrow footpaths would be neither unsafe nor uncomfortable. Its manufacture can also be decentralized in small villages, as it does not require a fancy industrial infrastructure.
