Vessel Lamps - Containers to hold light
EATIT WORLD collaborated with American artist, Lynda Benglis
to create VesseLamps. "The classical forms of vessels used
for feasts and perfected over centuries by craftspeople of
India are the inspiration for these containers now holding
light," she says. Benglis translated the Japanese technique
of balloon-shaped Paper Lamp-making, stretching translucent
sheets of strong, handmade, cream-coloured paper over round
bamboo armatures, into Indian vessel shapes, such as the ghadas
and matkas.
The idea of lamps as containers of light or spiritual nourishment,
corresponded in a quixotic way with vessels as containers
of food and water
